Hydrogenics has received orders for a total of seven 12kW HyPM fuel cell power modules from one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers.
Airbus Deutschland has placed the order along with the German Aerospace Centre, DLR Deutsches Zentrum fur Luft-und Raumfahrt.
The fuel cell power modules will be subjected to various tests regarding their use within commercial aircraft and Hydrogenics expects to deliver seven of the cells before the first quarter of 2008.
Daryl Wilson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hydrogenics, said: "Fuel cell technology has played a vital role in the aerospace industry since the days of space exploration.
"Today we are seeing the next phase of commercialisation for auxiliary power applications in commercial aircraft," he added.
The fuel cells will provide auxiliary power on board aircraft.
Water is the only by-product created by the fuel cells and even this can be re-used within the aircraft.
Hydrogenics is a developer of hydrogen generation fuel cell products and services to provide industry with clean energy sources.
