The Scottish government has outlined its commitment to energy generated from renewable sources ahead of an expected announcement by Westminster addressing the future of nuclear energy in the UK, the Press Association reported.
It is expected that the UK government will announce plans for a new generation of nuclear power stations in the House of Commons on Thursday.
A spokesman for the Scottish Government said the administration of the Scottish National Party is opposed to developing additional nuclear power stations in the country.
"We have a very well established, very positive energy strategy for Scotland based on maximising what is the growing potential to develop our electricity through clean, green renewable sources," he said.
According to the Scotsman, the country is considering undertaking a number of environmentally-friendly initiatives in the coming years, including using renewable electricity to power Scottish rail services and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
Finance secretary John Swinney told the newspaper that the government is planning to back nine projects to improve the country's economy and reduce environmental impact.
