Car manufacturer General Motors has revealed that its new range of heavy-duty diesel powered pickup trucks will be fitted with biodiesel capability.
The announcement was made at the National Biodiesel Conference, confirming that the latest trucks will be more fuel efficient.
A blend of 20 per cent biodiesel and 80 per cent conventional diesel can be used in the trucks to help lower carbon dioxide emissions. This combination is known as B20.
Biodiesel looks like it is becoming more popular as one of the biggest producers reports an increase in figures.
The American National Biodiesel Board indicated around 700 million gallons of the fuel were produced in 2008 - a major increase on the 500,000 produced in 1999.
General Motors will use the fuel in its new Duramax 6.6 litre turbo diesel engine which has been substantially altered to allow the use of the more environmentally-friendly fuel.
