Toyota offers cleaner and more fuel efficient vehicles than other manufacturers, it has been suggested.
The results from the latest Clean Green Cars survey revealed that Toyota outperforms all other manufacturers in terms of average carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles sold in the UK in the first six months of the year.
Toyota's average carbon dioxide emissions stood at 124.49 g/km, an improvement of 6.71 per cent on the company's score for the same period last year.
This puts the firm below the mandatory 130 g/km target set by the European Union for all new cars to achieve by 2012.
The average emissions level for the new car market as a whole in the UK stands at 145.14 g/km.
Toyota recently secured a deal with Jeffries Cars, a private hire firm located in Manchester.
The company took delivery of two Toyota Prius hybrid vehicles, signalling the beginning of a move towards greener transport.
Sarah Jeffries, director of the company, commented: "People are genuinely interested in taking a greener route in Manchester, and there's a lot of interest in hybrid technology and awareness of the fuel and carbon savings possible.
"That makes it easier for us than it was for companies doing this elsewhere a few years ago. We expect the interest to snowball."
