Suzuki has announced a competitor to the Fiat 500 Pop in terms of fuel efficient superminis.
The third generation Suzuki Swift goes on sale in the UK in autumn of this year with a 1.2-litre petrol engine.
An emissions level of 116g/km has been achieved, making it a competitor on the superminis market.
However, a 1.3-litre diesel version is planned for introduction in the UK from early 2011.
This car will feature even lower emissions at 109g/km and offers a combined fuel consumption of 67.3mpg.
One of the car's rivals could be the Fiat 500, which has taken the supermini award at this year's What Car? Green Awards.
Steve Fowler, editor-in-chief of What Car?, commented: "It's everything that a green supermini should be – affordable, fun and easy on the environment.
"It's no surprise Fiat's brilliant 500 has won this category for the second year in a row. Nothing else in this class can mix as much style, affordability and fun with such green credentials."
