North-east gets green fleet boost

01 July 2009

Written by Mark Stephens

A newly-formed transport company in the north-east of England is getting ready to launch a range of green vehicles.

Future Transport Systems (FTS) is Britain's first consultancy specialising in the integration of electrical infrastructure with low carbon technologies for vehicles.

The Newcastle-based firm has already picked up several contracts to bring green transport options to the UK and will conduct research into how electric vehicles can be deployed across the country.

Matthew Lumsden, managing director of FTS, said: "Our goal is to be the leading low carbon vehicle infrastructure consultancy for sustainable transport in the UK and beyond."

He added: "We expect significant growth in the electric vehicle sector over the next five years with many opportunities arising from the parallel development of smart metering, smart networks and renewable generation."

FTS will work together with One North East, the region's development agency, to deliver the project.
