A firm behind the first tri-axle hybrid double-decker has received praise from Scottish first minister Alex Salmond.
Alexander Dennis, of Falkirk is the UK's largest bus and coach manufacturer and was praised for its efforts to reduce carbon emissions ahead of the launch of its new bus at the Expo Bus trade show in Birmingham.
The BBC reported that Mr Salmond said: "Alexander Dennis is the industry blueprint for innovation in the development of sustainable transport.
He added: "The company's commitment to cleaner, greener, more sustainable transport is excellent and most welcome."
The companys chief executive Colin Robertson told the news provider: "In benchmark tests set by independent experts we have consistently recorded fuel and CO2 savings comfortably in excess of 30 per cent."
He added that because tests had shown a 40 per cent improvement in mileage, the busses could have a significant impact for transport fleets.
The company has also showcased its technology in the US, attending the Expo 2008, earlier this year.
Mr Robertson told attendees at the event that the company was looking to build double deck buses in the USA by summer 2009.
