More wind farm approvals necessary
Approval for 300 new wind farms is needed as part of a move to speed up the fight against climate change, according to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
The organisation, which held its CBI Climate Change Conference yesterday (December 2nd) said the development of wind farms should be sped up.
Director general Richard Labmert said that the recession should not be used as an excuse to slow down action to combat climate change.
"We must not let the global economic crisis become an excuse for inaction on climate change. Now more than ever, we need to secure a binding EU climate change deal, or the opportunity to make the transition to a low-carbon economy will slip through our fingers," he said.
The CBI also launched its Climate Change Tracker which will rate the government's progress in cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
Ed Miliband, secretary of state for the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) was at the conference.
The DECC has approved plans for a 750 megawattt wind turbine off the north coast of Scoltand.
