'Make it easier to install wind turbines'
Planning permission laws should be relaxed to make it easier for homeowners to install alternative power solutions more easily, according to an industry source.
The government recently passed a bill providing incentives for homeowners who generate renewable electricity, in the form of premium rate payments.
And people are increasingly interested in exploring their renewable options, though Andrew Moore of British Eco Energy claims it should be easier to install.
He said: "Wind is a natural choice, I think. It's a good fit, but we need to look at the planning permission laws and help people to put them up more quickly or more easily. A lot of people are interested in wind turbines but it's still only a small proportion of people that actually go out and do something."
According to the Committee on Climate Change's report, Building a Low Carbon Economy, wind could account for 30 per cent of the UK's electricity by 2020.
