Companies urged to seize low-carbon energy opportunities
UK Energy Excellence chairman Samir Brikho of told delegates at London Oil Week that the skills from traditional energy sectors should be deployed alongside specialist expertise in the renewable sectors and called for more investment.
He said: "While the UK has proven expertise in many aspects of the energy industry, for example drilling and production, up until now it has been slow to invest in new technology development.
"As we look to accelerate the development and deployment of clean and sustainable energy and cost effective low-carbon technology, it is vital that we make the innovation process quicker and far more effective."
Mr Birkho added: "We require a robust strategy for nurturing talent and creating a highly-skilled energy industry workforce."
According to UK Trade & Investment, the UK energy sector had an export value of approximately £19.4 billion in 2007.
