Balfour Beatty wins wind farm contract
Scottish Power has awarded two wind farm contracts to construction giant Balfour Beatty.
The building firm will work on the Clyde Wind Farm in South Lanarkshire and the Crystal Rig Wind Farm in East Lothian.
For the former, Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions will be in charge of connecting its transmission network.
This will involve installing two 275kV single circuit cable connections to link the wind farm to the Elvanfoot substation nearby.
For the Crystal Rig farm, Balfour Beatty will build 400kV overhead line transmission network which will eventually connect with Torness substation.
The projects are expected to cost £20 million in all to compete.
Tony Scott, operations director in charge of at the company said: "We are delighted to have been awarded these programmes of works from Scottish Power Energy Networks - our expertise and knowledge of the transmission network in Scotland have helped us to be selected for the project.
"These projects will help the Scottish government meet its ambitious targets for supporting Scotland's electricity demand from renewable resources, and we are proud to be a part of this process."
