New recharging system developed for fuel cells
A US alternative energy technology firm has developed a new fuel cell charging system for batteries in industrial applications.
Idatech's iGen 250Wt system has been conceived to work with battery packs and renewable energy systems in challenging environments.
The system, which was launched in December, consists of a fuel processor, a purifier and fuel cell stack and runs on Hydroplus, the firm's methanol-water fuel mixture.
It is expected that the system will be used principally for automated battery charging in signalling, security, telemetry and sensing as well as telecommunications applications, including wind hybrid configurations.
Hal Koyoma, President and Chief Executive Officer of IdaTech, said: "As an integrated system operating on a compact liquid fuel source, the industrial iGen system provides IdaTech customers with another attractive solution for a wide range of applications.
"The commercial launch of the compact iGen battery charging fuel cell system marks a significant milestone for IdaTech. This compact system extends IdaTech's product and market capabilities significantly, addressing the sub-kilowatt power range."
