Thermal photos show energy inefficiency
Thermal images taken by a high-tech camera mounted on an aircraft will be used to urge one city's householders to make energy efficient modifications to their homes.
Coventry council is to send up an aircraft equipped with a thermal camera to capture 150,000 homes.
Images which reveal excessive heat leakage will then be used to determine which households most need to improve their energy efficiency.
They will be urged to take advantage of the government scheme to make insulation free or half price for all households.
Councillor for climate change, housing and sustainability Nigel Lee told the Coventry Telegraph: "If your home is blue it isn't losing heat.
"But if it glows red you're wasting energy and money.
"We are going to be proactive and help people who have heat pouring out of their roofs."
According to the Energy Saving Trust, 15 per cent of all heating costs could be lost through an un-insulated loft, while a third of heat loss happens through un-insulated walls.
