Torfaen gets insulation grant
Tenants of a housing association in Wales will see their energy bills reduced as the organisation takes steps to make their homes more energy efficient.
The Brn Afon Community Housing has received a £300,000 grant which will be used to fit loft and cavity wall insulation in homes in Torfaen county.
Because insulation prevents heat loss, and heating a home is one of the most energy intensive processes in a home, installing the material will help households reduce their energy bills.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, a third of all heat loss in an un-insulated home happens through walls. Installing cavity wall insulation can save households about £160 pounds.
Loft insulation, which minimises heat loss through the roof, could save up to £205.
If loft insulation was installed in all homes in the UK to the recommended depth of 270 millimetres, £710 million would be sliced off electricity bills.
