1.8m Scots could get free insulation
Scotland's two Green SMPs are said to be close to an agreement with the Scottish government which could see free insulation provided in 1.8 million homes.
If given the green light, insulation firms would be paid by the government to offer free loft and cavity insulation to every home which is in need of it.
According to the Green Party, the implementation of the scheme would save families in Scotland around £340 a year in energy bills.
The project is based on a similar programme which has been successfully carried out in Kirklees council in west Yorkshire.
Around £10 million from the Scottish government is needed by the Greens in order to implement the ten-year insulation scheme.
Speaking to the Guardian, a Scottish Green party source said: "We're making good progress."
A senior government official told the newspaper: "We're optimistic that come stage three [of the budget process] we will be successful."
