Scottish Power slashes energy bills
Energy provider Scottish power has given consumer some new year's cheer by cutting the cost of one of its tariffs by ten per cent.
It is thought that other firms will follow suit and that homeowners can expect reduced energy bills as the year progresses.
Scottish Power customers on its Price Sure fixed energy plan will benefit from reduced gas bills bringing the average bill down by £81 from £1,210 to £1,129.
Commenting on the move, Scott Byrom utilities manager at price comparison site, moneysupermarket.com said: "Today's move by Scottish Power makes the PriceSure deal the cheapest dual fuel fixed tariff available on the market.
"This deal should appeal to anyone who wants the security of knowing exactly how much their bills are going to be for the next 12 months."
He added that Scottish Power's deal, which is available to both new and existing customers, is just only £54 more expensive than the best energy deal on the whole market.
"There are stirrings in the energy market about prices coming down in the first half of this year with a ten to 15 per cent reduction expected in the build-up to Spring," Mr Byrom said.
