Energy efficient houses meet level 5 CSH
A development that promises low heating and electricity bills to residents reaches level five of the Code for Sustainable Housing.
The Ecos Homes Stawell Homes development achieves the high levels of energy efficiency through comprehensive insulation, the use of renewable generation technologies and solar mass.
As well as generating energy through photovolotaic solar panels and biomass burning, the homes are also built in a sustainable way.
Construction used renewable timber frames and natural paints and plasters, while the homes feature 'green' roofs planted with Sedum.
Residents of the homes also benefit from a garden area in which they can grow their own produce and a shared electric car recharging point.
These measures earned the five-home development an award from the South West's sustainable energy agency RegenSW - last month.
At the same awards ceremony Bristol City Council was recognised as the most proactive local authority, while the Okehampton Business centre took the prize for best renewable energy scheme.
