Baby boomers go energy efficient to cut bills

Baby boomers are more likely to improve their energy efficiency to cut their bills than their under-25 counterparts, according to a survey.

Some 500 people were polled for the study for Opus Energy, revealing that over-55s were 25 per cent more likely to become more energy efficient than the younger generation.

As well being better at carrying out small steps to cut their energy consumption, such as turning switching off their lighter when not in use, the survey showed that they also made better use of modern technology.

Louise Boland, Director at Opus Energy said: "It's clear that having lived through two recessions, our older generations are more adept at taking steps to save on their energy usage to cut their bills.

"What is interesting is that the older generations have really embraced the energy saving benefits of modern technology, to an even greater degree than their younger counterparts."

Other simple steps people of all ages can take to reduce their energy use is turn of all appliances at the plug, lower the thermostat by one degree and turn of all lights when they leave a room.
