Cameron outlines green business plans

07 January 2009

David Cameron has outlined plans to give greater support and money to eco-friendly technology companies.

The Tory leader said that green start-ups would be given more tax breaks and their own stock market under proposed business incubators.

He added that this would create a generation of green technology firms which would rival the likes of those in Silicon Valley.

Plans for the tech market, he said, would "unleash environmental entrepreneurship across Britain, by giving companies advice and services, including expert guidance on intellectual property protection, legal issues and drawing in venture capital".

"Our green tech incubators will help new green start-ups get off the ground and then the world's first environmental stock market will give companies access to the investment they need to flourish and grow," Mr Cameron said.

Gordon Brown has also been promoting the importance of saving the environment, pledging to create new jobs in the sector.

The prime minister said earlier this week: "The pace of climate change is such that it not only threatens future generations, but imperils our generation today."
