RIP CO2

12 March 2008

A town in Norfolk is implementing an insulation policy in order to cut down the amount of CO2 it produces, it has emerged.

Reepham was recently named one of the most polluting towns in the UK; however, it is striving to cut its carbon emissions by 20 per cent through insulation alone in the RIP - Reepham Insulation Project - the Dereham Times reports.

According to Rex Warner, leader of the town's environmental group, the town's poor pollution record was caused by a lack of insulation.

"Only eight per cent of homes are properly loft insulated - 80 per cent of homes are under-insulated," he said.

"But we have noticed there has been a sea change in the last two to three years. And we want to set an example with the insulation project."

Events in the town have been organised to promote the energy saving activity, as well as insulation costs being cut and thousands of energy saving lightbulbs being given away.

The Greener Homes and Buildings Show to be held at Builth Wells highlights the fact that many towns in the UK are attempting to reduce their carbon footprint.
