'Green issues will influence homebuyers'
People looking to buy a house are going to be looking increasingly at environmental issues, it has been claimed.
With the government's introduction of home information packs (Hips) and environmental performance certificates, the Home Builders Federation (HBF) has said that this will motivate homebuyers to make green issues a factor.
John Slaughter, director of external affairs for the HBF, commented that the government initiative will make a difference in the future since homebuyers at the moment tend not to consider these issues when moving into a new house.
"I think it will become a bigger concern, a bigger interest over time," he said.
"I think they will definitely rise in importance as we move forward - both because of the general concerns about climate change, and because of the measurements the government has taken on the EPC."
The government aims to have all UK homes carbon-neutral by 2016.
Insulating wall cavities and lofts are one measure people can take when trying to implement environmentally friendly measures in their homes.
