Heat pump field trials

Heat is on report cover

Our heat pump field trial,  The Heat Is On, is the most wide-ranging monitoring exercise of domestic heat pump installations and customer feedback undertaken to date in the UK.

We worked with technical experts in policy-making, academia, and industry to develop peer-reviewed methodologies to monitor the in-situ performance of heat pumps. The technical specification for field monitoring of heat pumps can be read here.

The field trial was undertaken with funding and support from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the Scottish Government, the UK’s energy suppliers, six heat pump manufacturers, and one specialist heat pump installer.

Field trial outcomes

Heat pumps can play a significant role in helping the UK reach its carbon emissions reduction targets and provide an effective, efficient solution for heating in many homes.

Findings from the heat pump field trials has allowed us to develop detailed, accurate advice and  guides for consumers wanting to install  air or  ground source heat pumps for their own homes.
