Ready for Retrofit

Ready for retrofit – warmer greener homes

Ready for Retrofit is a three-year project offering a new funding opportunity for social landlords in the south west of England (except Cornwall) to improve the energy efficiency of their existing stock. The aim of the project is to grow the local supply chain for low carbon building retrofit by stimulating demand and supporting local SME businesses, in order to create a sustainable domestic energy efficiency and microgeneration sector.

Ready for Retrofit will deliver a project of national significance, harnessing the best national, regional and local expertise and experience and delivering the best economic and carbon reduction outcomes. It was launched by the Energy Saving Trust, Regen SW and our local partners in June 2012 and is European Regional Development Funded.

Our vision is to create a sustainable domestic energy efficiency and microgeneration sector in the south west that can:

  • deliver a massive refurbishment of the SW housing stock
  • benefit from the Green Deal, new Energy Company Obligations (from 2013), the Renewable Heat Incentive and Feed-In Tariffs

and a radical refurbishment of the entire UK housing stock by 2050. 

The aims of Ready for Retrofit are:

  • to accelerate market growth, first with and then without public subsidy;
  • to enable businesses in the south west to grow and develop a competitive advantage as the national market grows in response to Government policy initiatives;
  • to stimulate greater long-term growth in the south west through targeted demand and supply side sector development.

The legacy will be the creation of a new industry and sustainable market in south-west England, between now and 2020 delivering over £2.75 billion in sales and over £1 billion GVA, and employing more than 2,000 people.

 

Objectives

 

Demand stimulation

A major home eco-refurbishment programme targeted at social housing across south-west England:

  • investing £2.3m to help fund more than £6m in social housing retrofit measures for energy efficiency, renewable heat and renewable electricity
  • delivering at least 787 individual measures
  • attracting private sector investment and wide participation in business support, knowledge transfer and training programmes.
 

Business support

An intensive business support programme, targeted at 410 SMEs, to create competitive advantage for businesses in the south west, focused on developing delivery capability at scale, value and quality.

 

Market development and exit strategy

A market development programme to create a sustainable market by:

  • unlocking the owner-occupier market
  • developing innovative self-sustaining financial mechanisms
  • supporting community-led growth including energy-saving open homes events.
