The National Indicator Set
A new set of national performance indicators (PIs) for local government and other local bodies was introduced from April 2008. These are now the only PIs which central government will use to assess local government performance. All other indicator sets, including Best Value Performance Indicators and Performance Assessment Framework indicator have been abolished. The new PIs are intended to reflect local outcomes that are delivered through partnership working. Therefore many of the indicators also apply to the police, primary care trusts and other local bodies. The indicators will inform Comprehensive Area Assessments and are the basis for improvement targets within Local Area Agreements. For more information see the web pages on the National Indicators from CLG.
A Data Interchange Hub will act as a central repository for national indicator data provided by both government departments and local areas, with facilities to help local authorities to track their progress and compare their progress with other areas.
