Launch the action plan(s)

Launch the Action Plan to staff, stakeholders and the general public.

Once the Action Plan (or plans) has been approved you will need to consider how best to launch it to:

1. Staff directly responsible for implementing the Plan (within the council and in some cases partner organisations)

2. Other staff in responsible organisations

3. Stakeholders with an interest in the Strategy, such as business or environmental bodies

4. The general public

There is no one way to launch the Plan. It will depend on what publicity and events have been organised during the development of the Plan, other publicity that is happening at the same time and of course what resource are available.

Staff directly responsible for implementation will have been consulted and informed while the Plan was being developed, but you may feel that it would be useful to hold another meeting or seminar to confirm their roles prior to the launch.

The Plan might be launched to other staff through the intranet, organisational newsletters, cascading through team meetings or seminars.

Many councils have launched their action plans more widely by holding launch events or conferences that also involve awareness raising or consultations. Getting an article about the Council's initiative into the local press or on local radio might also assist in building broader community awareness and establish the Council as an example of best practice for other local organisations to follow.

1. Peterborough city council launched its Climate Change Strategy at Peterborough's Key theatre. There was a special screening of Al Gore's film "An Inconvenient Truth" followed by a panel of local experts to answer questions.
