Energy Saving Week 2008

Roundup

Energy Saving Week 2008 (20 - 26 October) was one of our most successful ever thanks to the support of our partners and stakeholders.

An annual event organized by the Energy Saving Trust, the week is designed to raise awareness of the damaging effects that wasting energy has on our climate.

The aim of Energy Saving Week 2008 was to encourage householders to discover their 'green/life balance' and encourage them, through our range of planned showcasing events, to implement energy saving measures at home and at work to save energy, money and help fight climate change.

Working with a range of partner organisations including IKEA, Queens University Belfast, B&Q and a wide range of councils, a concentrated programme of events were organized across Northern Ireland to promote Energy Saving Week and to showcase energy saving measures amongst householders.

Key events throughout the week included the low energy lighting showcasing event at IKEA; consumers had the opportunity to see first hand both low energy and traditional lighting on display. They also had the opportunity to complete their free home energy check questionnaire detailing on how they could save up to £340 a year on their household energy bills by being more energy efficient.

Our insulation showcasing event at B&Q provided the opportunity for consumers to learn about the benefits of insulating their home and see the wide range of insulation products on the market.

It also provided the opportunity for consumers to take advantage of B&Q's in-store insulation offers.

Both events were a great opportunity to showcase the Energy Saving Trust advice centre services and the energy efficiency methods people can employ in their home to save money, energy and the environment. It was a great opportunity for consumers to ask questions and liaise informally with our expert energy advisors.
