Kettles

Kettles

Kettles are one of the most used appliances in the kitchen with the average family brewing up around 4 times a day and a total of 1500 times per year.

How they work

Energy Saving Trust Recommended kettles or instantaneous water heaters have to meet strict testing, ensuring that they demonstrate a 20% reduction in energy consumption over that consumed by an average kettle.

The savings

An Energy Saving Trust Recommended kettle will use approximately 20% less electricity than an ordinary kettle.

As well as this, if everyone boiled only the water they needed each time they used the kettle, we could save enough electricity in a year to power the UK's street lights for nearly 7 months. This is the equivalent of the electricity used by 330,000 households for a year or the output of a typical power station for 4 months.

How the savings add up

If every household in the UK used an Energy Saving Trust Recommended kettle, we would save around £170 million of electricity a year.

Look for the logo

Always look for the Energy Saving Trust Recommended logo before you purchase your kettle or instantaneous water heater. It's your guarantee that these products are the most energy efficient in their category will cost less to run and help prevent climate change.
