Phase 1 of the Government's Low Carbon Buildings Programme provides grants to householders for the installation of micro renewable energy technologies. Phase 1 works towards raising awareness of the benefits of integrating microgeneration technologies with energy efficiency measures to create low carbon buildings.

Grants will only be given to technologies that have been certified and installed by certified installers. The following types of technologies can be funded:

The Low Carbon Buildings Programme previously funded electricty generating technologies however as of the February 2010 this is no longer the case.

The Government announced on April 1st 2009 that the householder stream (Phase 1) will be extended to June 2010 or as long as funds are available, whichever is sooner.
Applications by community and public sector organisations can be made through Phase 2 of the programme.
Streams 2A and 2B, for organisations and businesses, are now closed for new registrations.
Householders can apply for grants of up to £2,500 per property towards the cost of installing a certified product by a certified installer.
