Kettles
Kettles
Kettles are one of the most used appliances in the kitchen with the average family brewing up around 4 times a day and a total of 1500 times per year.
How they work
Energy Saving Recommended kettles or instantaneous water heaters have to meet strict testing, ensuring that they demonstrate a 20% reduction in energy consumption over that consumed by an average kettle.
The savings
An Energy Saving Recommended kettle will use approximately 20% less electricity than an ordinary kettle.
As well as this- If everyone boiled only the water they needed to make a cup of tea instead of filling the kettle every time, we could save enough electricity in a year to power the UK's street lights for nearly 7 months. This is the equivalent of the electricity used by 300,000 households for a year or output of a typical power station for nearly 5 months.
How the savings add up
If every household in the UK used an Energy Saving Recommended kettle, we would save around £170 million of electricity a year.
This is enough electricity to power over 300,000 homes for a year and enough CO 2 to fill Big Ben tower more than 75,000 times.
