North East Home Insulation Partnership (NEHIP)

The North East Home Insulation Partnership was founded by the Energy Saving Trust advice centre north east in 2005 with the simple mission: To insulate every home in the North East.Figures calculated by the Energy Saving Trust advice centre shows that there is the potential to insulate 522,412 unfilled cavities in the North East. 41,792 of these cannot be filled without remedial work.

Objectives are to:

1. Develop the existing North East Home Insulation Partnership into an effective communications & action group that can champion initiatives through wider networks and identify opportunities for action.

2. Increase the rate of all Insulation products with emphasis on increasing Cavity Wall Insulation fill by 50% on 2004 - 2005 baseline.

3. Establish more accurate baseline of the potential for solid wall insulation systems and carry out low-key developments of the solid wall (hard to treat) market.

Opportunities Identified for 2007 - 2008:

To improve NEHIP communications through a full partnership event and maintenance of links with the National Insulation Association (NIA) and the North East Domestic Energy Forum.

To assist National Energy Action (NEA) in the development of a DEFRA-funded qualification in insulating problem cavities for installers, whilst working with NIA installers to identify companies and individuals to undertake training.

To progress the mission of insulating all the North East cavity walls by: inviting the North East Housing Board to partner the initiative; conducting a financial gap analysis for the region; and influencing the Single Housing Investment Programme (SHIP) funding criteria, placing greater emphasis on insulaiton.

To market cavity wall insulation, resulting in it being an increasingly desirable product to the general public, through consistent marketing materials and a segmented hotspot marketing campaign throughout the region.

To develop a robust baseline for the purpose of acquiring funds and targeting marketing resources.

To develop a package for internal solid wall insulation, including redecoration.
