Jaryn Bradford, Senior Technical Manager

Jaryn Bradford joined the Energy Saving Trust in November 2007 as a Development Manager. Jaryn has been responsible for the development and delivery of a wide range of activities to expand EST’s market presence in microgeneration and low carbon technology. Jaryn has managed EST’s technology field trials including micro-wind, heat pumps, and solar water heating, and is currently leading the development of new field trials and customer assurance programmes for low carbon technology. Jaryn also actively works with key stakeholders in the UK microgeneration industry, including trade associations, manufacturers, and the energy suppliers, to improve training, skills, and standards through the supply chain.

Jaryn is a qualified media spokesperson and has represented the Trust on numerous live and recorded television and radio programmes, including on the BBC and ITV. Jaryn has also authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management and Energy Policy, and has contributed to industry publications such as Utility Week, the Ecologist, Green Futures as well as the Sunday Times and the Guardian.

Before joining the Energy Saving Trust Jaryn had several years’ experience working as a project manager to deliver environmental and renewable energy feasibility studies involving local authorities, planners, and developers. Jaryn has earned a BSc (hons) in Business Administration, an MA (distinction) in Sustainable Development, and is a member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.

James Russill, Technical Development Manager

James has considerable experience in evaluation and physical monitoring having been involved in a number of different roles at the Energy Saving Trust. James' first role involved the evaluation and reporting of the performance of EST's Government funded programmes. James then project managed the implementation of the evaluation and reporting process for Ofgem's EESoP 3 programme, the predecessor to the EEC and current CERT programme. This included the management of energy supplier funded energy monitoring and R&D programmes. Towards the latter stages of this project James took an additional role as Quality Manager for the Energy Saving Trust, and was responsible for the successful implementation of the ISO9000 and 14001 Standards into the London and regional offices.

More recently, James has been responsible for developing and managing a wide range of research programmes and product field trials, both on behalf of DECC, Energy Regulators and the private sector. These have included in-situ monitoring of wind turbines, condensing boilers, LED lighting technology, heating controls, domestic heating standards, solid wall insulation and cavity insulation.

Stephen Passmore, Technical Delivery Manager

Stephen trained in manufacturing engineering and then environmental science before joining Powergen, (now E.on) where he worked to develop a green energy tariff for sme’s. He moved on to a small environmental charity to deliver community sustainability advice in the east midlands before joining the Energy Saving Trust in 2007. 

Stephen has worked for the Energy Saving Trust for three years providing impartial professional advice for housebuilders, architects and the trades.  He has worked on numerous detailed advice guides covering subjects as varied as the Code for Sustainable Homes, thermal detailing, energy performance monitoring and low and zero carbon technologies.  In addition Stephen has developed and implemented innovative advice projects including trigger points guidance, for the trade and consumer to install energy efficiency measures at retrofit opportunities, and expanding a national network of demonstrator homes to engage householders in the complexities of domestic retrofit.  He oversees activities within the National Refurbishment Centre collaboration with BRE and sat on the panel advising the development of TSBs Building Performance Evaluation programme.

Alex Stuart, Technical Delivery Manager

Alex is a Graduate in Business Studies (BA) and has worked at the Energy Saving Trust since 2007, initially as the programme assistant for the DTI’s Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP). Responsible for producing weekly/monthly/ad hoc reports, including Freedom of Information Act request and Parliamentary Questions, statistics and analysis on the performance of the various streams of LCBP.

His current role in Low Carbon Technologies Team involves multi-project management, technical development and reporting across all of the Energy Saving Trust’s recent field trials – micro-wind, heat pumps, LEDs, advanced heating controls, solid wall insulation, condensing boilers, TSB Retrofit for the Future and in the development of future trials. In addition to evaluation of measures for CERT under EST’s role as technical consultant to OFGEM.

Prior to joining the Energy Saving Trust, Alex worked at IBM UK as an Operations Analyst. This involved working for a number of managers providing regular reports and analysis on the performance of the business across the different brands (Hardware, Software and Services), sectors (Banking, Insurance and Financial Markets and latterly all sectors including Industry, Government,) and regions.

Helen Stimpson, Assistant Technical Manager

Helen has worked in the sustainability sector since 2006. Prior to working at EST she was involved in delivering energy and water efficiency projects for a south-west environmental engineering company. This included on-site feasibility studies, system design, business development and marketing activity.

Having been at the Energy Saving Trust since 2008, Helen has been responsible for the contract management and delivery of several technical assistance projects on low carbon newbuild and retrofit housing schemes. Experience includes project co-ordination; energy efficient building fabric and LZC technology specifications; ESCO analysis; supplier procurement and building performance evaluation. Helen has worked closely with key industry organisations and SHP's including the Zero Carbon Hub, Good Homes Alliance, Gentoo and Affinity Sutton, on a number of joint projects.

Helen has managed the core contract to produce and deliver a range of detailed technical guidance for architects, developers and builders  on energy efficient newbuild and retrofit design, innovative case studies, web tools and events, including the exciting development of open homes activity to demonstrate exemplary projects around the country.

Frances Bean, Assistant Technical Manager

Frances is an Environmental Science (BSc hons) Graduate and has worked at the Energy Saving Trust for over a year, managing delivery and development of the EST's heat pump and solar thermal field trials. This includes maintaining project plans, documentation and reporting, managing customer engagement exercises as part of the trials, and managing relationships with partners, funders and contractors. Frances has also assisted in the development of new field trials and assurance programme for low carbon technology.

Prior to joining the Energy Saving Trust Frances worked as a policy advisor and project manager at the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
