How we set a standard
We work with industry and partners to set standards in a rigorous, peer-reviewed process.
The four steps to creating a product standard for Energy Saving Trust Recommended ensure it is as sound and credible as possible.
- Together with industry and partner organisations, we write a proposal document on the new standard and its requirements.
- We hold a consultative forum where manufacturers, retailers, testing and certificaton bodies discuss the proposal.
- The Energy Saving Trust Recommended Endorsement Panel reviews the proposal. This body comprises independent regulatory, certification, enforcement and environment experts.
- Once it has been reviewed and agreed or changed, we implement the new standard and communicate it to the industry.
Existing standards are similarly peer-reviewed when changes are needed.
