Installation begins on world's largest offshore wind farm

Installation has begun at what will be the world's largest offshore wind farm.

The first two wind turbines, both with a capacity of 3.6MW, have been deployed in the Thames Estuary as part of the first phase of the London Array offshore wind farm.

While a total of 175 will be installed by the end of the project, the two turbines will start producing green electricity by March, BusinessGreen.com reported.

It stated that the first 630MW phase will be completed by the end of the year.

Once phase two is finished, it will have a record-breaking capacity of 1,000MW and could generate enough power to supply electricity to 750,000 homes, around a quarter of Greater London.

It is not the only wind farm project underway in the UK. The 500MW Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm is nearing completion, the news provider reported, with 108 of the 133 turbines having already exported electricity.
