New energy efficient homes built on the Wirral

Thirty-six eco-friendly homes, worth £4.1 million, have been made available for rent on the Wirral.

The ambitious construction project, which was financed through the coalition's Housing Market Renewal Initiative, has seen the creation of new properties in Wallasey.

Before construction work started, the government considered bringing the original houses up to modern standards.

But owing to the fact that the houses dated back to 1919, it was decided that new energy efficient homes needed to be built from scratch.

The site, according to Wirral News, boasts a mix of two, three and four bedroom bungalows and houses, with each property featuring its own parking space and rear garden.

Additionally, all of the new properties boast a number of eco-friendly features, including solar panels, which provide hot water, and smart meters, which are used to monitor gas and electricity consumption.

uSwitch.com, meanwhile, recently claimed that more than eight in ten households have reduced or rationed their energy use this winter despite the cost of energy recently sinking.
